It is quite remarkable that of all the people who might choose to support a political party, property developers appear to be amongst local MP Bernard Jenkin's most ardent supporters. A look at the Register of Members' Interests http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm/cmregmem/061106/memi15.htm shows Richard Sargeant as a contributor along with a rake of others with a finger in the property pie.
A curious coincidence, of course, because in England it isn't possible to buy influence over politicians at a local or national level by donating to their party. These altruistic people obviously contribute because of their deeply held political beliefs and without expecting anything at all in return, because that would be very, very wrong.
Aren't you glad you live in a country where you can be proud of the independence and honesty of our elected politicians and put your trust in the democratic process?
Edit: City and Country Group has won two "highly acclaimed" awards in The Daily Mail UK Property Awards for its development of Warley Hospital in Brentwood. And who is a director of the company behind this industry backslapping? Quelle surprise, what a small world! It's none other than Eric Pickles, Tory MP for Brentwood who has ahem, accidentally entered the company name incorrectly in the Register.

Can you smell something?
