Is development in the Parkland acceptable or should the wildlife take precedence?:

Mrs Twitcher

Mrs Twitchers' gossip corner

I undertsand that upwards of 35 trenches have been dug in the field that backs onto the houses in Mill Street and runs down to the nature reserve. People have also been seen surveying the entrance to the Priory driveway.....

The Parish Council seem to know nothing of whats going on.....

Is this an Archaeological Survey before the owners submit a planning application to build houses ??

Anybody know whats going on ??

'Tis the Season of Peace and Goodwill to all men - I THINK NOT !!

I understand that several properties on Mill Street have received letters today from Capn Tims Solicitors. The contents I understand are along the lines that the properties boundaries are not in line with those at the Land registry. However being good neighbours the owners of the Priory are willing to come to an agreement for the boundaries to be kept as they are and are classified as gardens. However the land can be claimed back at any time by the Priory owners. Whats the betting that the planning application for the houses will soon be put forward and anyone who has come to such an agreement and objects to the plan will have their bit of land taken from them.

Timbo, the people of St Osyth weren't born yesterday !!

Yes folks, the truth (or as near to it as Tim S. is prepared to go) is out.  The story is that the land, and other parts of the priory land are being surveyed with the intention of enacting the enabling policy which is in the local plan.

For those that are not aware of this, it was a stitch up at the local enquiry between the priory owners and the councils planning officers. Everyone must remember that they submitted plans for hundreds of houses etc on land around Daltes Lane and Spring road this was fought off but was appealed by them in the draft local plan.  The day came for this to be discussed by the inspector, but at the last minute it was dropped and TDC planning officers agreed to the enabling policy WITHOUT consulting the other residents of the village and it was presented to the inspector before the allocated time.

So, they are now digging up the field at the back of Mill St, with, so Iam told, English heritage telling them where to dig. Iam an avid viewer of Time Team and its the first time I've ever seen trenches in an Archealogical dig joined up in the outline of a house (are these footings ??). Its also interesting that at the moment no  trenches appear to have been dug towards the rear access road to the priory, but as that would ruin the owners views one wouldn't expect them to. If anyone is concerned about access roads, as the first few properties in Mill Street are reported to be owned by the priory, no doubt they could flatten one or more of them to make a suitable junction.

I understand that we have to wait until the October edition of the parish mag to see Tim S'. open letter which no doubt will have more spin than my washing machine.

Isn't it about time local businesses and sporting clubs that are supported by the priory owners are blacked by everyone else.

Any chance you could get some photos of this, and attach them to a post, sounds like survey work to me ?? haha, but imagine they must be looking for some more witches or something
